What I do

My work falls into three areas, and each one feeds the others. Inclusive design shapes how I teach, teaching keeps my research grounded, and research informs every design decision.

Inclusive Learning Design

I design courses, modules, workshops, and resources around how people actually learn, with neurodivergent learners and a wide range of needs in mind, using Universal Design for Learning to offer clear structure, flexible paths, and more than one way to engage.

  • Academic Integrity Course
A required asynchronous course for every student on a university campus, launched in AY2024. I led the technical and learning design, and Kelly Wilson led the content.
  • Course design partnerships
One-on-one work with faculty on course structure, assessment, and active learning.
  • Accessible course spaces
As Canvas administrator and digital accessibility liaison, I help make course sites easy to navigate and usable by every student, including a redesigned campus services layout.
  • Outcomes alignment prompt
An AI prompt that helps faculty map Course Learning Outcomes to Program Learning Outcomes.

Facilitation, Teaching & Community Building

I lead sessions where people do the thinking, teach courses that build real skills, and look for ways to turn one-off sessions into communities that keep learning together.

Generative AI workshops. Hands-on sessions for faculty and staff on using Microsoft Copilot thoughtfully in teaching and everyday work.

In-class workshops. 204 workshops for engineering students between 2017 and 2020, reaching 3,472 participants, on brainstorming, team building, presentation skills, and document design.

Workshops coordinated and facilitated at Texas A&M University at Qatar:
2019–2020: 85 workshops with a total of 1,531 student participants
2018–2019: 54 workshops with a total of 950 student participants
2017–2018: 65 workshops with a total of 991 student participants

Your feedback and comments on the students’ presentations were very insightful and valuable. Despite the transition to online teaching, this commitment has been maintained thanks to your support. And the most rewarding part was seeing the impact of our feedback on the students’ presentations. It was clear that many of our comments were implemented and the presentations (slides as well as presentation skills) looked so much better later in the semester.

Instructor Testimonial

Coaching & Tutoring. One-on-one sessions helping students build study strategies and bring their design, presentation, and video projects to life.

Hear from the students themselves on the Academic Coaching & Multimodal Consulting page, along with more details about the sessions.

Islamic Pattern Construction. A seven-week community course at VCUarts Qatar for adults with no experience, who each leave with a finished piece.

Curious? Find details and photos from past courses on the Islamic Pattern Construction page.

Student team. I supervise and mentor student workers who produce tutorial videos and other resources.

Scholar-Practitioner

I read the research closely, then ask what it looks like in a real classroom. My research focuses on how students make transitions, and I bring what I learn back into my own practice and into conversations with faculty.

  • First-semester learning journal
A grant-funded project ($27,000), designed with a faculty collaborator and three undergraduate researchers, to support students through their first semester.
  • Doctoral research
How first-year students experience the transition into an international branch campus, examined through the first-year experience and the hidden curriculum.
